ABOUT
Prometheus Space Station is my most ambious game yet. It's an environmental narrative with interactions that draw the larger picture of the space and who lived there for the player to investigate and figure out. There is also an overarching theme of a simulation within simulation with odd and weird occurances in the game space, with misplaced sounds, objects that look out of place, glitches and warning messages.
The creative goals for this project was to finish and have something to present. I came into this with a lot I wanted to achieve but low expectations on how much time I was able to throw at it. To my surprise all of the things I listed that i wanted to do for the game I was about to do with the addition of being able to debug more than once and fine tune various parts of my game. My focus for the base game was the 3D models important to the narrative (the office and datapads/paper/sticky notes), interative controller scripts to highlight what can be interacted with, text for narrative purposes, audio, lighting and the glitch effects.
I had a few design decisions that were added after I realised I was able to add more to the game, such as the toilet being interactable and the tv screen. Most of the changes to the game came from the model of the apartment itself. I went through about 4 iterations of the apartment before I settled on where it is now. The first was the original floorplan that I created in my design document, I then realised as i was creating it in maya that the rooms were too big and too small in some areas and adjusted it accordingly. Then it was more interations in the amount and size of the windows. The final iteration came as a last minute decision a few days before the due date when I realised that even with all the tables and clutter, the lounge room still felt too spacious so I removed the space that was created behind the kitchen so that the couches and tv screen would take up more of that empty space.
